Fixing A Spatial Dilemma
As many of you know I usually maintain a certain level of seriousness on the WIHTJ blog, but I decided to momentarily veer off course while keeping the post on the lighter side and somewhat humorous. So over the last couple months, my wife and I have been preparing the house for our new arrival. A little baby boy, Inshallah. So we’ve had to do a bit of reshuffling of the furniture, but more importantly, maximizing the space in our apartment. For those of you who live in the 5 boroughs, apartment space is a valuable commodity and every square inch needs to be maximized to it’s full potential.
One area of the apartment that has been a complete disaster is my workout area. I mean, I love working out, especially when it’s time to getting down on some flat bench dumbbell presses or some bartendaz.
1. Enter the disaster:

2. Enter the solution. A Body-Solid Best Fitness FID Folding Bench:

3. FID Folding Bench in folded mode:

4. Enter dark espresso console table:

5. Time to move the workout equipment under the console table:

6. Enter the African cloth cover that my wife and I picked up at Kaarta Import & Export in Harlem on 125th street. We actually got it custom made for the console table and the tailor was able to put it together in a couple hours. We dropped off the dimensions and chose the fabric then picked it up in the evening

With a bit of creativity and organization you can utilize as much space as possible. Here is a list of items that went under the console table:
- 2 5 pound dumbbells
- 2 10 pound dumbbells
- 2 20 pound dumbbells
- 2 25 pound curling bar plates
- 1 folding bench
- 1 Ab roller
- 1 floor mat
- 2 10 pound dumbbell plates
- 1 curling bar
- 1 Doorway Gym (Push Up and Chin Up Bar) [I call this my bartendaz bar]

To be honest, I'm a whole bunch of things, but mostly I'm an individual who seeks for truth in a world that has become a caricature of honesty. With so much information at our fingertips, the line between truth and conjecture has been blurred. I created this blog to offer ideas and thoughts that assist people in truth seeking. Often, what we find might challenge our personal sensibilities, but nevertheless give us a torch to pave through the darkness of information obscurity.
Hey man… that’s awesome… nice use of space.. That’s lifehacker.com worthy
Also, congrats on the impending arrival.. I had no idea. We’re also expecting a boy this year.. in July..
Finally, I just discovered bartendaz recently and decided I wanted to explore those techniques.. I used to use calisthenics in my martial arts training back in the day and it worked well for me.. I need to get back on both the calisthenics and the martial arts… need to get back in shape.. Thanks for the blog posts..

What an amazing transformation! It’s amazing how creative we get when organizing small spaces. Especially when the priority is BABY! You may have another calling Malik… in design! This is what i like to call a recipe for success — a real Room Recipe! I’m going to write about it on my blog. I hope you don’t mind… Much love, K
ps. isn’t it beautiful watching that belly grow? love each other like crazy!
Rick, thanks for the congrats. And congrats on your new addition in July. We’ll have to get all the babies together and hang out soon. I did not know about lifehacker.com I’ll check that out. Bartendaz is the realest thing. I think it rivals P90x. I’m already up to 2 seconds pauses on the my pull ups for about 10 reps. I’m in hardcore BZ mode. lol
Coming from someone that Sarah and I consider as the”Organizational Interior Design CZAR”, that means a lot. I have to give props to Sarah. It was her idea then I just added on to it. Feel free to blog about it. That’s great. It’s amazing watching the belly grow. Sometimes I just can’t believe it, but then I can. It’s also surreal watching the baby push and kick around while Sarah’s stomach’s is morphing around into different shapes. Unbelievable!
Awesome work! I need to start my p90x routine soon!
